Tree Removal Notification

July 15, 2020

Dear Residents:

Boulevard Garden is fortunate to be blessed with a park-like atmosphere.  Our trees are our biggest asset in creating this atmosphere. Unfortunately, the age and condition of our 300 plus trees vary. Whitney E. Lewis who is an ISA-certified arborist and has ISA TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) for evaluating tree risk, does a walk through every year with our superintendent.

During this year’s walk through, a White Pine and Norway Maple were marked with an unmanageable risk factor and recommended to be removed.  The White Pine is listing/leaning towards F building (30-31 Hobart Street). The tree’s root system has become compromised and the tree is partially uprooted. The bigger the tree gets, the bigger the risk. The Norway Maple is suffering from girdling root with a deformed buttress root collar and Phytophthora Bleeding Canker (which is evidence of Phytophthora root rot below grade). Both of these trees are highly prone to failure in wind and/or snow and ice events.  Therefore, for the safety of our residents, the Board of Directors has decided to remove these two trees. The Board has purchased two trees to replace them.

On Thursday, July 16, 2020, the Norway Maple will be removed near J (55-25 31st Avenue) building and on Friday, July 17, 2020 the White Pine will be removed near F (30-31 Hobart Street). If you are traveling through these areas of the property, please proceed with caution.
